Having been a logging
town at the turn of the century, it's no wonder Akeley is home to
the tallest statue of legendary logger Paul Bunyan. Visitors to the
area can also enjoy the Heartland Trail, a 28-mile paved trail running
through town on the old Burlington Northern railroad grade. The trial
is perfect for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in the winter
or walking, biking and rollerblading in the summer.
